Relationship Matters Program
for students grades 10-12
Whether you are a teenager in a dating relationship or an adult in a committed marital relationship, it seems that relationships truly do matter. Because our relationships are so important to us, they also have a great impact on our lives. And few relationships are as powerful and complicated as dating relationships and marriage.

StarkSTRONG
PSC through Stark STRONG (Standing Together Reaching Our Next Generation) has embarked upon a new venture. Stark STRONG is a collaboration between Community Services, Catholic Charities and PSC which has been in existence since 2004 the collaboration is a recent recipient of a five year grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of HHS-2006-ACF-OFA-FH-0129. With these funds, the collaboration has developed a program entitled Relationship Matters. This program offers Marriage Education to high school students in a semester-long, credited, elective class.
A recent study found that the greatest fear among teens and young adults is the breakdown of the family. Interestingly, these same people also say that having a successful marriage is very important to them. So while teens and young adults greatly desire healthy marriages, they also fear that they may not be able to develop and maintain such a relationship.

The Program
This is why we offer the Relationship Matters program to high school students throughout the Stark County area. The Relationship Matters program is a class that students in grades 10 through 12 can take as an elective for high school credit. The class is taught from the Connections Curriculum on Dating & Emotions and Relationships & Marriage. The class is broken into two parts:
Both students and teachers highly praise the Relationship Matters program.
The first half of the class focuses on the topic of Dating & Emotions. This portion of the class helps students to learn things such as how to prepare for a successful dating relationship, how to build good relationships over time, the difficulties in dating and what to do about them, how to break up with someone and how to move forward once they have left a bad relationship.
The second half of the class focuses on the topic of Relationships & Marriage. This portion of the class helps students learn how to create and maintain a healthy marriage relationship. Topics discussed include better understanding your own personality, dynamics in relationships, communication patterns, how to deal better with conflict in relationships and important components of a marriage relationship.
Both students and teachers highly praise the Relationship Matters program.
