Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound

PSC is pleased to offer free limited obstetrical ultrasounds to our positive pregnancy test clients.  We utilize this tool to confirm the viability of pregnancy.  A urine pregnancy test cannot confirm a viable pregnancy, as hCG may be present in the urine of a women for up to 8 weeks after a miscarriage.

Determining the viability of a pregnancy is accomplished by using high frequency sound waves known as ultrasound.  This technique has been employed for several decades and no harm to the pregnancy has been found.

In medical terms, a viable pregnancy is determined when a fetus is seen to have a beating heart and is visualized in the uterus.  In the course of this procedure, the estimated age of the baby is also determined.

Ultrasounds are performed by trained medical professionals under the direction of a physician.  However, ultrasounds do not take the place of necessary medical follow up.

Ultrasound appointments are made by referral from PSC’s Peer Counselors.  An appointment for a Pregnancy Test is required prior to receiving an ultrasound.
